The development of economy and technology promotes people's requirement on security, comfort, convenience of their living environment. Home market of smart home is disordered and no uniform standard by research. With the requirement of residential development, the smart home system, which is characteristic, mature in functionality, economical and practical, will be applied widely.The paper analyzes the domestic and international development of smart home, integrates embedded technology and WLAN, a distributing home network was applied to the design of wireless smart home system based on radio frequency. Home gateway, relay and wireless subnet constitute the solution's infrastructure. Home gateway uniformly manages relays and home appliances by connecting the relays utilized Ethernet. User interface is provided on the gateway to find out the environment status and monitor or control home. Relay collects the data of sensors and controls the switch devices distributed everywhere in house. For wireless subnet, it is compose of access server and access remote terminals, which communications with each other by radio frequency channel. Access server is interface between wireless subnet and relay, which targets to supply seamless data transmission between access terminals and relay. When being queried, access terminal frames and reports the information gathered form various sensors'to access server. For downlink, access server incepts downlink frame from relay seamlessly, and transmits it to access terminal. For uplink, it receives uplink radio frequency frame send by access terminal, abstracts loaded data and transfers them to relay.The textual main research work primarily as follows: firstly, research the domestic and international development of smart home, with the domestic smart home character and requirement of residential construction, wireless networking was selected. Secondly, expose the system's holistic framework; introduce the main functionalities and the infrastructure of software. Thirdly, discuss the design of relay based on ARM-Linux platform, including the hardware design and application software design. Finally, paper emphasized on the main part, namely, expand the software and hardware design of wireless subnet and communication protocols.
