With the development of the network technique and growing of the users' demands ,data will be augmented dramatically. The expansion of IT applications has resulted in the fact that more and more data is being produced, making it necessary to manage high-capacity storage systems. Thus, Network Storage System will be widely used .If the storage is connected in a disorderly way to different types of server, free space will be wasted and management will become difficult to conduct. Furthermore, increases in the volume of data makes it harder to back up .It is also important to develop software to manage the storage devices. According to the current actuality.This article points out a way to design the storage management software based on NAS (Network Attached Storage)by comparing many network storage systems .As we know, the main way for users to store their files is the way that depends on FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Therefore , many linux OS provide FTP service modal ,such as FtpD in FreeBSD OS, by which the network managers set the space capacity and its priorities to the users' demands .However , with the increase of users' demands, a high -effective software to manage the storage devices is needed. This is hard to be realized by the current systems .This article promotes the FTP technique with which we can bind the FTP users' information to the Mysql database records. In this way, the way of management for FTP users will be changed into the management of Mysql database system .At the same time, software quota is used to limit the users' storage spaces and to record the states of the storage spaces.
