Interactive tabletop is now receiving a wide publicity for its natural setting for collaboration. The related research subjects of tabletop focus on hardwares support, operation system management, and application mode study. Document based work is the most popular work mode on desk in office. The porting of this kind of work mode to large-scale tabletop will provide the table-based interaction, collaboration and management of digital documents, which is an innovation of tabletop application mode. So we propose to design and develop an"electronic conferencetable"which is advanced meeting-supporting equipment based on large-scale tabletop.In an effort to transplant meeting work scene to large-scale tabletop suitblely, we take part in several typical conferences to investigate traditional conferences working mode on desk. Then both from a single work and multi-user collaboration has collected the user requirement information of"electronic conferencetable". Combined conferences scenes features and advantages of interactive tabletop techonology, we identify five fundamental modules for interactive design on"electronic conferencetable": input and output management, layout management, object definition and organization, multi-user collaboration management, conflict management and authority management.As document reading and revision is very common form of meeting work, reading experience on"electronic conferencetable"based on horizontal display will have a direct impact on its user experience.By user experiments, this paper deeply studies the similarities and differences about reading performance and reading experience between horizontal interactive tabletop reading and traditional computer reading, and collects quantitative information about the factors which greatly affect the reading performance and experience, including screen brightness, the best size and location of the reading window, background color and etc. According to the reading defects on horizontal display, we also propose a reading experience improvement solution for large scale tabletop, which refers desktop digital object design, reading perspective view, the development of innovative reading tool and etc. Then, this paper designed user study to evaluate the implemented system in detail.To conclude, the"electronic conferencetable"system in this thesis is an extension of tabletop application mode which has practical value for our interaction efficiency and effectiveness in conferences. Reading experience study and improvement is helpful for more friendly system.
