With the rapid development of automobile industry and the people's living standards, people request that automobile should have simplicity of operation and the automobile's equipments should have credibility and fully function. People hope they can plan a trustable route before driving, hope they can get more trustable guide information when at a stange place, hope they can contact with their family members and business partners, hope that they can watch movies and listen to music when have a rest in their car, hope that they can go through the toll stations of the highway and the car park without parking, hope that their car can alarm and video record automatically when stolen. Therefore, people make an appeal of the appearance of the embedded-vehicle information terminals with ultra-high reliability and full-featured. Meanwhile, with the continuous performance improvement and functions enhancement of embedded hardware platform, as well as the maturing of platform's system software, a variety of applications in one embedded-vehicle information terminal will be the directions of the development.This subject design hardware, system software and multimedia display of the embedded-vehicle information terminal using the technologies of embedded and multimedia codecs. Firstly, this paper select the type of ARM processor based on the hardware require of the embedded-vehicle information terminal, research the hardware features of S3C6410 processor, and then design the hardware of the embedded-vehicle information terminal. Secondly, this paper design the system software of the embedded-vehicle information terminal, research U-Boot and linux kernel and port it suitable for the system hardware which can upgrade and start system from SD memory card. Thirdly, this paper research the hardware features of the peripheral devices and port device driver based on linux kernel. Lastly, this paper design multimedia player for the embedded-vehicle information terminal, and propose a new window's management method of multimedia play.The embedded-vehicle information terminal researched by this subject only has the function of multimedia play, but it has been added GPS and electronic toll collectionon module in the hardware design phase, it lays foundation for the further research of this subject. With the increasing number of global cars, high-credible and full-featured embedded-vehicle information terminals have great application prospects.
