The development of computer network technology promotes the continuous progress of distance education which is a new mode of education. The distance education improves the limitation of the traditional education in time and space, so it makes the education more flexible, brings the convenience for more learners and gives the second chance for learners to obtain the knowledge. From the last century, the distance education has become the hot and difficult point of education science and computer science. However, the modern distance education also confronts with a lot of challenges. For example, it is not able to make the teacher and the student earrv out face-to-face exchange like tradition education.Through the analysis and study to the current distance education systems and stream media technology, we point out two main shortcomings:the content of multi-media courseware is monotonous and the interactive between the teachers and the students is weak. Focused on these two shortcomings. we propose to use Microsoft Windows Media Encoder SDK package and Microsoft DirectShow interface technology to implement the multi-media courseware and the interactive by using audio-video in this thesis. Then, we use the VC(?) 6.0 programming language to develop the distance education system of Hebei University of science and technology-HEBVEDIO. This system has the good and simple user interface. In this system, we achieve an online registration, courseware development. network libraries, resource retrieval, video playing, text interaction and audio-video interaction.Finally, we experimentally validate the performance of HEBVEDIO. The final results show that the design idea of HEBVEDIO is feasible and practical application is effective.
