The development of multimedia technology and widespread application in internet brings still image compression in high efficiency to a key part in the area of multimedia. With the relevant application domain expands unceasingly, traditional compression and decompression technology of JPEG will no longer meet people's requirement on use of multimedia image, a new generation compression techniques named JPEG2000 based on wavelet transform emerges as the times require.JPEG2000 standard and relevant theory is firstly introduced simply in this paper; Secondly, a deep study and analysis of JPEG2000 on algorithm and standard is then made to implement the compression system with some optimization in C which is under VC6.0 and based on PC. The paper accomplishs discrete wavelet transformation with lifting method, solves coefficient intertexture of high frequency and low frequency by using odd-even assembling, decreases scaning times of EBCOT by calculating the most effective bit plane, with tests flollows on compression result; Thirdly, with TI's OMAP3530 dual-core processor, the paper constructes an embedded system of Linux with kernel 2.6, makes a transplantation of JPEG2000 algorithm which is proven to be successful. Effect and capability tests is finally processed on each platform.By analysing and testing, the reason comes to be more clear that JPEG2000 overmatches JPEG and bottle-neck of JPEG2000 is obtained, which makes a further direction to key works and offer some reference of JPEG2000 algorithm in embedded system.
