The Effect Of Family Structure On Marital Quality And Physical And Mental Health

ObjectivesThis research will focus mainly on the family structure of university students' parents to discuss the structure of the parents' families, marital quality, health and the status of the interaction between the three relations. This will help guide the establishment of normal and healthy harmony between husband and wife relationship and to consolidate and develop the harmonious relations between the family's good fortunes. And it helps raise the quality of marriage and marital stability, the improvement of people's physical and mental health.Research design and methodsThe SCL-90 and marriage quality questionnaire were carried out among 232 pair of university students' parents and the results were analyzed. In the foundation of former material and related questionnaire, the structure of the parents' families, the present situation of psychologically healthy and marital quality are analyzed comprehensively, systematically and thoroughly.Data were recorded and input through Excel, then analyze them by using SPSS12.0 The statistical analysis method includes : u-test, t-test, variance analysis, chi-square test, multi-factor analysis, Logistic regression analysis, multi-dimensional linear regression and so on, significance standardα=0.05.Results1. The present situation of university students' parents: At the initial period of the marriage, the proportion of living together with the groom's parents is higher than the independent life and living together with the bride's side parents. After the marriage, along with the time lapse, the independent life becomes the mainstream, the nuclear family increases.2. The overall situation of marriage quality: The couples' evaluation of the quality of marriage is higher than the overall level of the marriage, The overall quality of marriage is in the middle-level.3. The comparison of marriage quality between tradition family structure and new family structure: in the traditional family structure, particularly the husbands and wives who lives together with the bride's side parents, marital beautiful fullness and the stability to a certain extent less then in the groom's family and the independent life .4. Factors of influencing the quality of marriage :In the factors of influencing the quality of marriage in the quality of marriage, sex life harmony, and economic income, household consumption, interpersonal relationships, the happy and stable marriage of parents has had a notable impaction, and also the family structure, independent time, family relations.5. The comparison of psychosomatic health between content family and the divorce family: From the comparison results we can see that the difference in anxious, the self-confidence, and the trust and in the summarization is significant.6. Family structure effects on the quality of marriage: The marital beautiful fullness and the stability are different remarkably between different family structures.7. Marital quality effects on physical and mental health: the husband and wife described their marital quality and part factor of SCL-90 was negatively correlated, the wives described their marital quality and SCL-90 scores of all factors of the husbands was not related, but her husband described his marital quality and the majority of SCL-90 scores of wives is negatively correlated.Conclusion1. University students' parents live together with the groom's family parents at the initial marry period. After the marriage, along with the time lapse, the independent life becomes the mainstream, the nuclear family increases. 2. The overall marriage quality of university students' parents is in the middle-level. The main factors affecting the marriage quality of university students' parents are family structure, independent time, family relations, family consumption,interpersonal relationships and leisure activities, the happy and stable marriage of parents, sex life harmony, the economic earnings and so on.3. The mental healthy levels are related significantly between family members. The reason could be that long-term living together, values and experience consistency, similar match and psychological feelings of mutual infection.4. The marital beautiful fullness and the stability are different remarkably between different family structures. Family structure influences physical and moral integrity, on the one hand take the marital quality as the middle variable, through influencing marriage quality, then influence physical and moral integrity, on the other hand influence family member's physical and moral integrity directly.
