The family is the smallest social unit with marriage and blood relationship as the link. The formation of the family is marked by the conclusion of the marriage relationship between husband and wife.Marriage happiness is the premise of family stability. Therefore it is the basis of social harmony. However, the divorce rate in China has been rising year by year. With the development of the economy and the rise of women's rights, the gender structure of the labor market has undergone great changes. From a micro perspective, the family is the supply side of the labor force, and the changes in the gender structure of the labor market have had a profound impact on the division of labor. The traditional family division of labor of “men managing external affairs women internal” is challenged. The transformation of the family division model has had an impact on the stability of marriage of couples and has become an important factor affecting the quality of the marriage.Firstly, this paper describes the division of labor in the family from two perspectives of economy and housework. It defines the economic division of the family as the proportion of the husband's annual income in the total annual income of the couple, which measures the degree of the family's economic dependence on the husband. The domestic division of labor was defined as the ratio of the daily housework hours of the wife to the total daily housework hours of the husband and wife, which measures the domestic housework dependence of the wife.Secondly, based on the survey data of the Chinese family tracking survey(CFPS)in 2014,this paper constructs an exploratory potential category analysis(LCA)model, and divides the marriage quality into two categories: high-quality marriage and low-quality marriage.By statistically analyzing the differences in marriage quality among different family division patterns,it is found that families with equal division of labor are more likely to have high-quality marriages. This paper takes marriage quality as the explained variable and family economic division of labor and household chores as the core explained variable, establishes logistic model to study the influence of family division of labor on marriage quality, and studies the difference of this influence in families of different ages and in urban and rural families. The study shows:(1)In general,In general,in terms of the division of housework, households with a high degree of dependence on their wives are more likely to have low-quality marriages. There is no evidence that economic division of labor has a significant effect on marital quality.(2)Economic division of labor has a significant positive effect on the marriage quality of elderly families, but has no significant effect on the marriage quality of young families and middle-aged families. That is,the higher the degree of economic dependence on the husband, the higher the probability of the elderly couples having high-quality marriage. There is no evidence that the same phenomenon exists in the young and middle-aged families.(3)The division of housework has a significant negative effect on the quality of marriage of young couples, that is,the higher the degree of household reliance on wives, the greater the probability that young couples have low-quality marriages. There is no evidence that similar phenomena exist in older families.(4)For middle-aged families, the household division of labor has a “U”-type effect on the quality of marriage between husband and wife. When the wife's housework time accounts for more than 0.55 of the total housework time of the husband and wife, the increase in the degree of dependence on the wife will increase the probability of low-quality marriage.(5)The economic division of the family had no significant effect on both urban and rural couples. The division of household chores has a significant negative impact on the marital quality of urban couples, that is,urban families with a high degree of dependence on their wives are more likely to have a low marital quality, but there is no evidence that a similar phenomenon exists in rural families.
