A Research On Ethnic Identity's Features And Its Related Factors Of Filipino-chinese Middle School Students

To explore the Filipino-Chinese middle school students'ethnic identity features and those variables'(gender, grade, father's occupation, mother's occupation, Chinese learning attitude) influences on Filipino-Chinese middle school students'ethnic identity, this study developed "The Questionnaire of Philippine Chinese Teenager's Ethnic Identity" and " Chinese Learning Attitude Questionnaire" to do the following Investigation and analysis. The research indicates that:(1) The degrees of ethnic identity and Chinese Learning Attitude among Filipino-Chinese middle school students remain at the level of above-average; (2) The Filipino-Chinese middle school students'ethnic identity is influenced by the gender. Girls'scores of ethnic identity's overall level, emotional dimension and cognitive evaluation dimension were significantly higher than boys, but there is no significant difference on the behavioral tendencies dimension;(3) Grade has no significant influence on the Filipino-Chinese middle school students'ethnic identity;(4) The father's occupation significantly influences the ethnic identity's total score of Filipino-Chinese middle school students, but mother's occupation has no significant influence. The ethnic identity's total scores of those students whose father's occupation is businessman and whose father is died were significantly higher than those students whose father's occupation is employees;(5) There is significant positive correlation between ethnic identity and Chinese Learning Attitude;(6) Father's occupation, grade, and cognitive factor, behavioral tendencies factor of the Chinese Learning Attitude could be regarded as effective predictors of the Filipino-Chinese middle school students'ethnic identity.
