The inquiry-based history teaching in the Senoir Middle School is a methodology in which, with questions as clues, teachers assist students to find, arrange, analyse and cooperatively probe into history data with a view to understanding the significant historic issues in history, and then organize teaching by means of provoking thinking and solving problems. This teaching methodology is mainly composed of four steps:identify questions by questioning particular historical situations; promote independent thinking by analysing; probe into questions cooperatively by group discussion and communication; further deepen inquiry by summarizing. It has the following characteristics:to develop the students'scientific qualities; to make students as central players and teachers as directors; to attach great importance to teachers'formative evaluation system and students'self-evaluation.Some points must be kept in mind with regard to this methodology:1. Seize the opportunity to create circumstances to stimulate students'inquiry initiative.2. Start with questioning to direct students to engage in active thinking and inquiry.3. Teachers should play guiding role in this process appropriately.4. Teachers should know well how to inspire and encourage students to participate in the inquiry.5. Teachers should diversify their teaching methods apart from stressing inquiry teaching. To ensure the success of inquiry teaching, history teachers in Senior Middle School should be equipped with following qualifications:1 Ability in education and research.2. Ability in the design of questions 3. Ability in organization and management 4. Ability in adaptation to changing circumstances.
