The style of Chiang K'uei's CI is celebrated for its "qingkongsaoya" and its origin has always been the subject of varied opinions:Learning consciously the good aspects of the school of Jiangxi and those of Suxin, (Sushi:poet of Sichuan 1037----1101,Xinqiji:poet of Shandong 1140----1207)Chiang K'uei evolved especially the aspect of "qingkong" of his poetry, whereas "saoya", being especially influenced by CHUCI-----the Songs of CHU (Hubei, the North of Hunan and a part of Jiangxi), the WANTANGSHI (poetry of late Tang Dynasty) and QINGZHENCI (the poems of Zhoubangyan). We would say that his style has given a profound and lasting influ ence to the later generations since--having created the school of " Chiang" with his unique style----he could stand up as an equal to the Graciousness and Heroic schools, the two main schools at that time. Monopolizing glories in the poetry field with their style of "qingkongqiaoba", the poets of Chiang school of the last phase of Southern Sung Dynasty have achieved the great successes in creation. The influence of Chiang K'uei's CI on Poetry rivers and lakes is obvious.Later, Wangshizhen of Qing Dynasty advocated with force the theory of "Verve", being different in approach with "Charm" advocated by Chiang K'uei but equally satisfactory in result, as we could notice, furthermore, we can feel the harmony of their works.During Qing Dynasty, the style of Chiang K'uei's CI influenced hugely the one of Zhexi (West of Zhejiang). In one word, the study relative to the origin and development of the style of Chiang K'uei's CI is inexhaustible and demands our incessant research.
