Objective:①To analysis the levels of mRNA expression of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in human lens epithelial cells (LECs) from cataract patients with different blood glucose concentration(normal,IFG and diabetes patients);②To study the possible effects and mechanisms of TGF-β1 on IFG patients with cataract. Methods: Lens anterior capsules with attached lens epithelial cells (LECs) from 19 cataract patients with IFG ,21 cataract patients without defective glucoregulation and 20 cataract patients with typeⅡdiabetes were collected during surgery of phacoemulsification extracapsular cataract extraction and IOLs implantation from Oct.2007 to Nov.2008.The total cellular RNA was extracted from LECs and the mRNA expression levels of TGF-β1 were determined by semiquantit- ative reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).Results: The mRNA expression of TGF-β1 with the IFG group and the Normal glucoregulation groups have Statistically significant differences;,and there are no significant difference between IFG group and the diabetic groups. Conclusion: There are abnormal expressions of mRNA for TGF-β1 in LECs which were derived from cataract patients with IFG and diabetes. The expression levels of mRNA for TGF-β1 change in IFG patients may speed up the lens opacity and Impact on the incidence of cataract and Development.
