Currently,traditional 2D CAD system has been widely used in construction, electronics, machinery, and other fields.However, as the requirements that people in the design, manufacturing, and other aspects is raising,2D CAD system gradually demonstrates its functional limitations in the using process, increasingly unable to meet the needs of designers.But in recent years,3D CAD system with a high degree of visualization, image intuitive and high design efficiency obtains a growing number of professional designers' favour,and it also can provide a complete design, optimization of technics and manufacturing information for all types of digital link of enterprises. Many domestic design institutes have already started to plan the introduction of 3D software,which is to be used as a design tool.Just based on this trend, and analysised the status quo of the DC EAF's design and manufacture, this dissertation chooses Solid Edge as a development platform,uses its own API interface and Visual Basic 6.0 technology for the secondary development of Solid Edge, to explore a way of "DC EAF 3D parameterized design system",which can meet the needs of modern enterprises,in order to get the purpose of increasing design efficiency and guarantee the quality of design.DC EAF is a new kind of steelmaking equipment, because of its complex structure and its greater number ancillary equipments, so the whole design process is more cumbersome. In order to make the design process simple and efficient, the DC EAF is divided into different modules in the initial stage of development according to the different function of its components, then bulit the respective model of different module in Solid Edge by variable or procedure method. After that,by setting the size constraints of the various models to ensure the consistency of the design.In order to make the correlation modules'design and edit more convenient, the system's interface is divided into the following seven parts:the main parameters of the interface, the top half of the furnace shell and its components,heavy-currentline of arc furnac, the lower half of the furnace shell and bottom electrode, transverse arm device, transmission machinery and water-cooled pieces.There are a number of modules in each part,and the sketch maps and key parameters is mounted for different modules in the corresponding interface.Finally, Visual Basic is used to programme for each interface.Through this, users only need to input the parameters based on the sketch map in the design interface,and then the system will automatically call the internal function of Solid Edge, so as to realize the design, selection and editing of the various models. In addition,in order to further reduce the burden on the designers, the system also set up much interactive information to provide necessary advice for users in the design process.In the process of R&D,this system refer to a great deal of experience and the design of the existing national standards, the realization of this system makes a meaningful attempt for the transition of DC EAF from 2D to 3D parameterized design. There is a great significance on enhancing the whole level of the EAF's design, as well as the development of the whole industry of EAF. Besides, its design methods and design concepts also has some reference value for the design of other furnace.
