This dissertation focuses on the solid modeling of the Worm-Type Parts, such as the worm, worm wheel, indexing cam, and so on, which has spacial surface.In the dissertation the common character of the worm-type parts' surfaces is analyzed. On the basis of enveloping theory, the general equation of this type of part is built. By changing the coefficients of the general equation, many kinds of worm-type parts' equations can by obtained, such as the roller gear indexing cam, cylinder indexing cam, parallel indexing cam, and so forth. The general equation builds a foundation for the solid modeling of the worm-type parts. On the basis of the enveloping theory, subtract the generatrix form the blank according to the given conjugate motion law, then the solid models of the parts can be obtained. The application program is compiled by using Visual Basic, and the solid models of the indexing cam, the worm, the worm wheel and the gear are generated in the environment of Solid Edge. And the simulating assembly and the simulating motion are carried out. Additional, by analyzing the effects that the structure parameters and the design parameters have on the indexing cams' surfaces, the relations between them are discovered, which provides an effectual aid for the design and manufacture.Finally, a new type of planetary indexing cam mechanism is presented, and the equation of the cam's curve is built. In the environment of Solid Edge, the solid assembly is completed.
