Study On Mianxian's City Identity

At present, the national urban construction is changing with each new day, but as a conspicuous character of city, the identifiability and recognizability of urban form, is increasingly weakened. Guiding by the theory of urban planning and design, city identity molding plays a vital role in restoring the urban vigor and promoting the socio-economic development. Neither aiming at restoring the urban original appearance or abandoning the urban modernized facility or civilized urban life, nor agitating people's nostalgia, the purpose of this study is to analyze the traditional city identity of Mianxian and to protect the existing urban fabric, as well as to explore and inherit the city identity.Basing on the research achievements of urban sociology, geography, history, urban design and so on, embarking from the urban planning and design, this paper explores the evolution of city identity, in order to provide theoretical and practical reference to modern city identity molding of Mianxian. Mainly from the following areas:1. Basing on the study and analysis of city identity system, understanding the characteristic, elements and value significance of city identity, this paper aims at establishing the knowledge framework of city identity.2. To study the formation conditions and evolution of Mianxian city identity. To analyze and interpret the present urban situation. To comparatively analyze the city identity of Mianxian from the natural environment characteristics, artificial environment characteristics, historical and cultural features, social and cultural characteristics.To sum up the city identity of Mianxian.3. To discover the characteristic elements of natural environment, cultural history and socio-culture of Mianxian. To explore the molding of city identity area, city identity belt and city identity nuclear. To multi-level reveal the city identity of Mianxian.4. To propose the city identity molding principle of Mianxian. Taking full use of the existing natural conditions, historical culture and socio-culture resources, the paper proposes to mold the city identity of Mianxian from three aspects:the innovation of urban characteristics, the preservation of urban characteristic and the perception of urban characteristics.After the above study, this paper argues:The study on the city identity of Mianxian County, should carry out in-depth study from two aspects:external material constitution and internal culture constitution, and the natural and historical environment of Mianxian, as well as the mechanism of city identity formation should be considered and explored. Basing on that and considering the factors which influence the city identity of Mianxian,this paper proposes three molding principles of city identity:integrated inheritance, specificity, domination, to provide reference to the new round construction of Mianxian and the restoration and protection of the city identity.
