Nowadays, automatic clamping traverse machine which originates from cartesian manipulator has been widely used in various industrial fields and become an indispensable optomechatronics equipment in automatic manufacturing production. As automatic clamping traverse machine has complexity in structures and moving methods, and high requirements of intension, vibration resistance and control ability in actual working conditions, intuitionistic imagination and accurate analysis are difficult to be carried out by designers. Traditional design methods have such defects as long design cycle, inconvenient amendment and high cost in prototype. In order to solve these problems, research on virtual design, simulation analysis and control technology of a certain company's automatic clamping traverse machine has been carried out. Main achievements are shown as the following:On the basis of reviewing and analysing cartesian manipulator's research and application, the gernera general scheme was drawn up on the principle of economy and reliability after gas-fired air-condition automatic clamping traverse machine's actual working process was analysed.According to designing requirements as simple structures, reliable movement, and easy controlling, reliability has been studied. Meanwhile, virtual design and simulation analysis were made on the platform of UG. By using kinematics simulation, finite ement analysis and module analysis on main parts, we've improved design reliability and shorten development periods. Thus, a new prototype of gas-fired air-condition automatic clamping traverse machine was developed successfully.Based on the characteristics and working requirements of automatic clamping traverse machine, a mixed driven straget strategy of AC servo and pneumatic was adopted, and the control system was set up with the core of PLC. Through installation and debugging on the spot, good economy and stability were shown on the system which could accomplish schedule tasks.Automatic clamping traverse machine of gas air-condition designed in this paper has been successfully applied in a company's production line, and achieved good effects. So, this study has great certain theoretic value and practical significance, which is helpful in further promoting the application and popularization of cartesian manipulator.
