Cooling water pump is an important part of automobile engine. When a pump is in the working process, the intensity and the vibration of the components of the pump will have great impact on stability and reliability. With the development of CAD, CAE technology, finite element theory and modal analysis technology have been extensively given more and more application and attention. It is very practical for finite element method and modal analysis to be more used in the structure design of pumps, especially for checking the intensity and dynamic characteristic of components. It is also meaningful to improve the performance of pump.In this paper, the method associated finite element analysis and vibration experiment is used to analyze the dynamic characteristic and modal parameters of the pump, which provides an important theoretical basis for the pump's optimal design. The main research is as follows:Through the analysis of pump structure characteristics and boundary conditions, using the powerful three-dimensional modeling software PRO/ENGINEER and finite element analysis software ANSYS, the whole finite element models of the important parts are established. After finite element analysis, the natural frequency and mode shape of the pump are obtained. According to the dynamic characteristic analysis theoretically and combining the pump's working condition, the suggestion to optimize the structure is proposed. On the basis of modal analysis, harmonic response caused by the imbalance of the impeller is analyzed to research the influence on the bend of the rotor.Considering the simplify of the model and the different between boundary condition and real condition, experiment modal analysis of the pump is done to verify the theoretical result. The test result show that the method proposed in this paper has some theoretical significance and important practical value.
