The period of Qingdao occupied by Germany and Japan (1897—1922) is the beginning of development in modern education.Various types of schools,concluding elementary schools,ordinary middle schools,professional schools and colleges,were established by the colonial authorities or missionaries gradually.These schools trained people that colonizers needed in China.The original purpose of modern education was cultural indoctrination,but the educational system transplanted form the Western also changed traditional and outworn educational system in Qingdao,and introduced the advanced science and technology.Most of the existing educational buildings are in the state of using for office,teaching and so on.It is regrettable that some buildings with important historical value were demolished or abandoned.The modern educational architecture that has been saved records the development of the modern educational history in the form of matter in Qingdao.It is the important composition of the modernization of Qingdao,and is also the important element of city texture.Effective protection and update towards these buildings plays a vital role in continuity of the city development and historical context.
