With the development of science and technology, the requirement on measurement technology is getting more and more important. The application of electronic measurement technology has extended to more fields than before. Due to limited functions and big size, traditional electronic measuring equipments are no longer suitable to common purposes. With VI, a measure system can be easily builded for different requirements. Actually,virtual instrument is an automatic measuring and testing instrumentation system based on computer. As the integration of computer technology and modern instrument technology, virtual instrument makes the revolutionary breakthrough in the measuring theory and technique of the conventional instrument.The purpose of this thesis is to design a VI frequency analyzer according to the major idea of VI. It is designed with LabWindows/CVI and Matlab soft. It completes two kinds of spectral estimate methods, classical spectral estimate method and modern spectral estimate method. Function soft is the soul of VI. So this thesis focus on analyzing the requirement of frequency analyzer, the principle of spectral estimate and comparing classical spectral estimate method's and modern spectral estimate method's performances. Finally a test platform is set up with CORTEX NT comprehensive baseband equipment, USB recording equipment and Agilent 8563EC spectrum analyzer, which is to prove the reliability of the two spectral estimate methods detailed in this thesis.
