Vehicle information system uses computer, satellite positioning, communications and control technology to provide safe, comfortable, intelligent features and services for vehicle consumers. As an important component of the vehicle, which combines vehicle detection control, positioning navigation, comprehensive security and information display functions in one, vehicle information system plays an important role in improving the traffic environment and realizing the intelligent transport. As the continuous improvement of people's demand on the vehicle's safe, comfortable, multi-functional characteristics, in order to solve the traditional vehicle navigation system's single function and low integration shortcomings, the system adopts ARM9 processor S3C2410 and embedded Linux operating system as a system development platform and uses CAN bus technology, Global Positioning System and GPRS wireless communications technology to study the vehicle information system's functions, such as vehicle detection control, positioning navigation, security and integrated information display. The system is multifunctional and well extendable. The detailed study and design of both the hardware and software of the vehicle information system are introduced in this paper. The system is mainly composed of data processing module, signal acquisition module, positioning navigation modules, wireless communication module and man-machine interactive modules. Firstly, the hardware design of the system's peripheral modules is expatiated in detail, including power, clock, reset circuit, the memory system, UART interface, CAN bus interface, GPS receiver module, GPRS wireless communications module, LCD display and touch-screen; Secondly, the structure of embedded Linux system is mentioned, including the establishment of cross-development environment, the transplant and achievement of Bootloader VIVI, the reduction and transplant of Linux kernel, the creation of file system and the design of related device driver; Finally, the system user applications are developed. The GPS data receiving and processing method is described for us in detail, the dial-up Internet is also realized, and MiniGUI is used for designing graphical user interface.
