In this paper, detailed kinematics and dynamic analysis and optimal design ofdouble horse head pumping unit have been presented. The research is accomplished toenhance its efficiency and solve the problem that the driving rope of the back horsehead is easy to be damaged. The geometric model of the double horse head pumpingunit is built, and the kinematics and dynamic analysis of the unit has been completedin detail. Virtual Prototyping Technology is applied to the unit's simulation analysis,and the virtual prototyping model of the YCYJ10-5-37HB double horse headpumping unit is established. In order to get its kinematics and dynamic parameterscurve, the simulation tests of the model is carried out. Then the optimal model of theunit is set up. The structure parameters of the variable length four bar linkage and theinitial position parameters of the back horse head are the design variables, themaximum torque factor of upstroke is the objective function in the model. Therandom vector method is selected as the optimization method. By making use themethod, optimistic design of the YCYJ10-5-37HB double horse head pumping unithas been finished. Finally the optimized virtual prototype model of the unit is set up todemonstrate the optimization results. The maximum torque factor of upstroke of theoptimized unit is decreased, and the force of the driving rope of the back horse head isalso reduced.
