Arbitrary Waveform Generator(AWG) is one of the most popular instruments in modern testing domains,which represents the developing direction of signal sources. Direct Digital frequency Synthesis(DDS) advanced early in 1970s is a full digital technology for frequency synthesis,its LUT method for synthesizing waveform adapts to generate arbitrary waveform.Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) has the features of large scale integration,high working frequency and can realize large memory, so FPGA can effectively realize DDS.this design is a partial work of"design of AWG based on DDS and FPGA",the main aim of this task is generating arbitrary waveform data and realizing the interface of transporting the data.Based on the theory of DDS,on FPGA chip EP1C3T144C8 the digital part in DDS structure and its interface with MCU are designed with Quartusâ…ˇ,the waveform RAM of DDS is the sink of arbitrary waveform data.Based on this,taking advantage of PC's powerful calculate and display capability ,I design the operate panel of AWG with Lab Windows/CVI. On the panel User can choose conventional waves such as sine wave,square wave,triangle wave, sawtooth wave etc.,draw wave required by testing by hand,and set wave parameters to bring waveform data and control instrument generate corresponding waveform.Drawing wave and bringing corresponding data is the emphasis and difficulty in the design,which embodies the"arbitrary"character of AWG. USB is more fast in transporting data and has more flexible operation than PC's other interfaces,so I choose USB to transport data from PC to AWG,PDIUSBD12 and AT89C52 are adopted in realization.after designing connection between hardwares and programming firmware of MCU and relative program of device driver,the communication interface between PC and AWG is realized.
