As the requirements of ship automation system is rising, the requirements of equipment and system are also increasing. Many domestic and foreign ship automation equipment using embedded technology, The embedded technology is an important branch of computer technology, at present,has been applied in many fields such as appliance automation, industrial control and so on,and also brings opportunities and vitality to the field of ship automation. The embedded technology has excellent performance in reliability,real-time and size. Because of many of its advantages, the embedded technology can meet the requirements of the further development of ship automatic systems adequately,and will become the development trend of a new generation ship automation system.Microsoft Windows CE is based on embedded mobile platform, an open, scalable 32-bit embedded operating system, based on the Pocket PC operating system, electronic equipment, a compact version of Windows XP, and the user interface graphical is excellent. In order to meet the needs of modern ships, the embedded system development based on Windows CE in ship automation has been widely applied. Engine room monitoring and alarm system is an important part of ship automation, it can not only improve the working conditions of engine management, reduce labor intensity and to detect the operation of equipment failure, but also the basic conditions for unmanned engine room. This article is for the Dalian Maritime University Marine Laboratory Automation "DMS-2010 Engine Simulator", using Embedded WinCE devices, development of a wireless monitoring system application for engine room based on the study of domestic hand-held monitoring application. The core is 32-bit ARM microcontrollers, Windows CE operating system and the necessary communication interface component, with a unified programming environment and a strong network functions.The main contents include:Hardware selection program of Embedded devices, equipment, device operating system requirements, Embedded devices and PC server communications, the design of monitoring alarm system interface and so on. Application development on embedded device development using Microsoft's CSharp language which language is very popular on.NET Compact Framework development platform. Hand-held monitoring system has complete monitoring function, meet the requirements of monitoring systems, a good user interface and reliable real-time.The research and design of the system has some innovative, this system will give a sample to the design of other monitoring systems later.
