The terrain following algorithm of the general low altitude navigation pod is researched in this paper. Considering to improve the flight performance of the system and to satisfy the requirement of the algorithm design's practicable application, the method of flight path angle and radio altimeter algorithm are adopted to design the algorithm of low altitude navigation pod in order to satisfy the requirement of modern war, and a corresponding mathematic model and hardware-in-loop real-time system simulation platform are built in the paper.All-digital terrain following (TF ) simulation system and hardware-in-loop real-time terrain follow simulation system are designed to verify the TF algorithms.The principles of radar TF algorithm and radio altimeter algorithm are analyzed firstly, and the method of terrain data storing and updating between the lately two working phases of radar is interpreted in this design, then the TF algorithm which integrate of adaptive angle algorithm and radio altimeter algorithm is designed out by referring to the radar's working principle, and the parameter adjust technology of the algorithm is studied. The algorithm of TF warning system which can build obstacle warning threshold line and zero commend line is designed. Furthermore, the mathematic models of the plane, terrain, radar, pilot, the terrain following algorithm and close-loop TF system are built with the SIMULINK toolbox, and simulations with different terrain (mainly including the single peak, the double peaks, commix terrain), different flight state. Simulation results show that the data fusion algorithm designed in this paper is feasible and valid.Vxworks-based hardware-in-loop real-time TF simulation system which implement the TF process visualization is designed in this paper. In this part, we explain in detail the key technologys which includes developing simulation hareware driver, correctly configuring simulation parameters in RTW, how the optimal embedded codes of real-time simulation software automatically generated, wrapping control algorithm using S-function, real-time model building, and terrain model building.
