In this paper, mechanical seals to seal fuel in the torpedo thermal power system were taken as research object. Its steady temperature field for steady speed and transient temperature field for speed changing from the low to the high were studied.As was the basis for analysing temperature field of mechanical seals, the working characteristic of mechanical seals, which includes rotator's rotating rate characteristic, end-face's load characteristic and end-face's heat flux characteristic, was studied firstly. It contributed to confirming boundary conditions and initial conditions for temperature field simulation. Secondly, 3-D solid models of all subassemblys of mechanical seals were built using Pro Engineering which is a parametric modeling sofeware, and the solid model of mechanical seals was got through assembling all subassemblys. Some shape simplifications of subassemblys, which wouldn't produce obvious temperature error and is helpful to finite element analysis, were taken restrainedly. Thirdly, steady temperature field and transient temperature field were simulated using ANSYS. The simulation indicates end-face's temperature wouldn't result in the explosion of thermal power system while torpedo's speed is steady and increase in small depth, but would result in the explosion while torpedo's speed increase in large depth. According to the working condition of torpedo thermal power system, some measures, which maybe avoid the explosion while torpedo's speed increase in large depth, were given at last.The result shows that temperature field simulation of mechanical seals can forecast the influence of temperature field of mechanical seals on the performance of thermal power system, which is helpful to find problems before test, to provide bright direction for improving power system, and to save money and time for reaserch.
