After a couple of treaties, Shanghai was forced to become an open port by the colonialists. Then, the gardens in Shanghai were divided into three parts: the Chinese traditional gardens, the Concession gardens, and the Shanghai Gardens by the western influence. Shanghai Gardens owned by Chinese, for example, Zhang Yuan, were opened to the public, which were much different from the Chinese private gardens. And they are very important to the Shanghai travel industry in late Qing Dynasty. The existence of Shanghai Gardens promoted all the tour resource to get together better. In the meantime, they provided great recreation ground for local people. Additionally, Shanghai Gardens speeded up the mixture of Chinese culture and Western influence.
