Geographic Information System (GIS) is one crosssubject between geography science and information science, which has been widely used in many fields, and underground pipe network management has adopted GIS technique in recent years.During the design and study of water supply and drain network information system, at first analyzing the situation and existing problems of water supply and drain management at present, on the basis of sufficient survey, this project carried on total analysis and design, meantime, on the basis of the structure, the project carried on the design of the system database.From the angle of design and development, introduces the conversion process from AutoCAD to Maplnfo, regarding GIS as technical support, combining the actual demand for the water supply and drain network information system, carrying on the secondary development on the Maplnfo platform and foundation, using and operating Maplnfo by OLE automation technique. During the course of program, VB is used as the program language, fully utilizing Maplnfo function to show map, analyze and inquire about the data. The paper also discusses technique of 3-dimension visualization and advantage of Virtual Reality technology, introducing MultiGen modeling technology and using Vega to implement the motion model, then implements a system, which is a virtual areola we can walk through. The system can provide many functions such as roaming, rotating, flying and walking in a virtual situation, building the reality vision of pipe network and buildings by some illumination simulation.
