The heat pipe is a heat transfer device that utilizes the phase change of working liquid in it. It has many essential characteristics that make it useful in a wide variety of applications in electronic engineering: the compact structure, the high heat thermal conductivity, the excellent isothermal property, the variability of the heat flux density, the ability to make the heat flux direction reverse, the ability to maintain constant evaporator temperature under different heat flux level, the ability to adapt the environment, etc.Along with the rapid development of electronic technology, the high frequency and speed of the electronic component and the denseness and minitype of the molectron in recent years, the heat transfers increases rapidly of electronic component per unit volume. The development of electronic technology needs the excellent heat transfer means. Hence, it has practical value in engineering to development the heat pipe radiator for enclosure, and yet the internal investigation has not been conducted. In addition, the heat pipe radiator for enclosure is an advantage in a lot of applications. So we develop the heat pipe radiator for enclosure, and the theoretical analysis and experimental investigation on the heat transfer performance are conducted.The working principle and characters of heat pipe are discussed in the paper firstly, because the applications of heat pipe base on them. Then analyzes the heat transfer mechanism in theory and obtains the operation limits. These can direct the design and experiments for the heat pipe radiator.According to the working condition of the industry enclosure, the heat pipe radiator fitting for the industry enclosure was designed, and two kinds of different heat pipe radiators were produced: independent heat pipe radiator and whole heat pipe radiator.A testing system was established to test the heat pipe radiator for enclosure. The two kinds of different heat pipe radiators were tested under the same conditions, according to the experimental results, the following experiment focused on the whole heat pipe radiator, which have advantage of simplicity manufacture and quite good cooling effect. In the test system, different conditionshave been created, the variety characteristic of designed heat pipe radiator and the distribution of the temperature field in the enclosure with the modify of the heat flux and temperature deviation between in and out of the cabinet. Different performance of radiator has been showed while different medium and different quantity of liquid filled charge ratio, and the proportion between evaporator and condensation length.Based on the experiment results, the whole heat pipe radiator has simpler manufacture, lower cost, better cooling effect compared to independent one, they have similar radiate performance in normal use. Better cooling character in using R22 to R134a as the medium of heat pipe radiator, great difference of performance indicate in running in lower temperature condition, but there is a trend of less difference in performance with the temperature increased. Concluded from the test system, the best liquid filled charge ratio of R22 is 45%. The proportion between evaporator and condensation length have great affection to the performance of the heat pipe radiator.I hope that the theoretic and experimental investigation of the new type heat pipe radiator for enclosure in the paper will give some help for the future investigations and applications. I also think the paper will contribute to the development and application of heat pipe.
