In the conventional design, when the strength of material of projectile is considered whether it can be fit the stress, in general, the stress and the strength are used as fixed values. This method can't reflect the change of the stress and the material strength. As a result, it often leads to the excessive conservative design. Therefore this paper presents a design approach based on reliability. According to the random of load, strength data and structure dimensional tolerance, base on the theory of probability statistic, the thin-shell projectile fundamental equations of structure strength reliability are established. This article search for a non-fixed value probability finite analyscs method by using the finite element analysis software ANSYS, the Monte Carlo method to analyze the probability characteristic of projectile strength failure function. These on the base of describing how to collect statistical data, deal with the data, and how to set up mathematical model, and analyze the reliability in detail. An example was analyzed to verify the efficiency and rationality of the proposed method. In the end, a example of analyzing and calculating the probability characteristic of thin-shell structure dynamic strength failure is used to design in probability, the reliability and the sensitive of input parameter to the result are obtained. The example in this article indicates probabilistic design lead to a safer and more economical design than the conventional approach.
