With the increasing concerning on sanitation and safety of drink-water, the assembled thin-walled stainless steel water tank (ATSSWT) is widely used as an water-storage equipment because of its advantage in terms of sanitation, high resistance to corrosion and easy in fabrication. But as there is no national standard for ATSSWT, it is hard to solve some problems in design and manufacture. Therefore it is of great importance to analyze the mechanical response of the ATSSWT and present the reasonable design criteria and design method.In this paper, the main research results are as follows:(1) Tensile tests on punched stainless plate are conducted to get stress-strain curve.(2) An experimental investigation on the ATSSWT is conducted to get the mechanical response of the water tank under internal load and its failure modes.(3) Analyze the ATSSWT under internal pressure load by FEA and present the method to calculate the mechanical response of ATSSWT.(4) Present the design criteria and design method of the ATSSWT and optimum design it by FEA method.
