With the implementation of separating power plants from power networks and generation bidding in power market, power plants have become independent corporations that have to take responsibility for their profits and losses. Whether the power plants can succeed in generation bidding and get good benefits depends on the bidding price. So the bidding strategy should be studied to gain maximal profits and the power quantity-power price curve model of bidding should be analyzed. Because generation cost is the primary part of bidding price, it is necessary to analyze generation cost accurately and timely. At the same time, in order to improve production and management efficiency, reduce production cost and enhance competitive ability in power market, the power plants should build management information system fitting for their condition.This paper illustrates the researches on three correlative parts about thermal power plants, including bidding strategy, cost analysis system which is one subsystem of Leiyang power plant Management Information System and information management. First this paper discusses the theories of generation cost curves and the balance between generation cost and income. Then the mathematical model of bidding strategy for power plants is proposed through rigorous mathematical reasoning, which aims at maximum profit and is fully concerned about the influence of generator start-up and shut down cost. Based on the analysis of cost composing and cost analysis theories, cost analysis system is designed and realized. The demand analysis and detailed design of cost analysis system are explicated in this paper, so are the system function and several real cases. To deal with the problems encountered in development course, Unified modeling language is introduced into the modeling of system analysis and its validity is proved by practice. In the end, considering the development of information technology, the MIS mode and ERP mode of power plant information management are introduced. The general framework and information disposal scheme of ERP mode is established.
