The utility of the hydrogen-cooled generator is increased rapidly due to the increment of the electric demand supply along with the development of human life and commercial activities. The purity of the hydrogen in the generator is a key index during the operation process. In this thesis, a new equipment for the analysis of the hydrogen purity was designed, and the operating principle, main idea, structure of the circuit, design of the console display and the supporting software for the equipment were discussed.The principle of work is based on the physical fundamental that each gas has its own thermal conductivity and the thermal conductivity of gaseous mixture varies with the change of its component. The equipment contains temperature sensor device and console display device. In the temperature sensor device, there are two gas cells for the sample gas and reference gas with a temperature sensor to measure the temperature respectively. The concentration of hydrogen in the sample gas can be calculated and shown on the console display if the natural parameter of the sensor, the thermal conductivity constant of every gas and the temperatures of two gas cells are known.Using the temperature compensation and automatic timing zero-reset techniques, the new kind of equipment for the analysis of hydrogen purity was designed and the corresponding supportive software was developed. The commercial prospect of this equipment is bright with such good characteristics of simple design, low energy consuming, on-line operation, small and portable, easy to use by the customers.
