Agricultural machinery is the main carrier that new agricultural technology implements effectively and applies extensively. The development of agricultural mechanization has being promoted by the developing of Agricultural Machinery products in China, and for China's agricultural and national economic development has playing an important role. However, compared with foreign products, the Agricultural Machinery products which made in china's agricultural and mechanic enterprises, there are many deficiencies, such as poor product quality, long development period and low utilization ratio of innovation resources. The reason is that the organization pattern of product development in many agricultural and mechanic enterprises can't solve some prominent problems, such as integrating of innovational resources and combining agronomy with farming machinery so on. With the rapid development and wide application of computer network technology, many Virtual Research and Development Organizations(VR&DO) appeared, one of which, the design chain is widely applied in electronic manufacturing industry and integrates innovational resources by optimizing product development process, achieved satisfactory result. So, for improving product quality, reducing development cost and shortening developing periods, introduced Design Chain to develop Agricultural Machinery products, and Studied on the feasibility and existing problems of Design Chain. It is of great both theoretical and practical significance. On the base of the classification and summary of some documents about this relation, this paper applied positive method and case analysis method to study the feasibility of applying Design Chain to develop Agricultural Machinery products and some prominent problems about the construction and operation of Design Chain.(1)From three respects expounded the basic theories about the connotation, component elements and organizational operation mode of Design Chain, analyzed the formative causation and feasibility of Design Chain for Agricultural Machinery products development with value chain theory, core competence theory, transaction cost theory and principal-agent theory so on. The analysis shows that Design Chain is effective to improve the production design level and reduce development costs and shorten development period.(2) User's demands to Agricultural Machinery products are diversified, blurred and changed. User's demands identified and conversing to the target value of products development is difficult, compared with other industrial products. This paper establishes a mechanism of user's demand conversion which based on the design knowledge database of similar products.(3) Farming knowledge is important to new product development of farm machinery. This paper analyzed the some problems of agronomy with farming machinery knowledge sharing. For encouraging farming knowledge to fully share, this paper proposes designing and establishing an encouragement mechanism that combining fixed rules and flexible measures(4) Mainly analyzed the customer needs conversion, farming knowledge sharing and supervision mechanism by taking the development of the chili harvester of American Pik Rite enterprise for example. In summary, this paper aiming at the particularity of Agricultural Machinery products development, analyzed the feasibility of Design Chain for Agricultural Machinery products development and some critical problems about the construction and operation of Design Chain, and proposed the countermeasure. But the Design Chain for Agricultural Machinery products development is a complicated dynamic network organization, there are still many problems are worth further studying.
