Gravity Dam is an old and important style because of many obvious advantages, and it is also one of the most widely used and the fast growing dam styles in the dam engineering in our country. As there is much complex design content and the restriction of entironment, there is no 3D design platform integrated CAD/CAE, which contains all gravity dam design contents. In order to improve the level and efficiency of gravity dam design and changes the status of 2D design, it's necessary to introduce the 3D design method into the gravity dam design , and also develop a set of integration and interaction Gravity Dam design system platform based on parametric solid modeling technology, database technology, CAE analysis technology, computer network technology and so on..In this article the advantage of the application of 3D design method in gravity dam design was studied, the functional requirements was proposed according to the Gravity Dam design process and the frame of the platform was alos built. The key technologies in the development of Gravity Dam integrated CAD/CAE design system platform based on 3D design method were studied, and the solution was alos put forward.. Taking a domestic gravity dam project for example, firstly, the dam body model was founded by parametric solid modeling technology, then stability and strength of the dam's section plane were checked with the calculation program which could dynamic interact with CAD system. Basing on the discussion of CAD/CAE integrated analysis technology, the detailed solution of the integrated data interface was given. The concept called―Finite Element Analysis Automation‖was proposed in this article, and the method which could carry out the idea was given out, then a rapid analysis and feedback mechanism that integrated CAD/CAE design was formed. Taking one gravity dam project for example, the functions of the system platform were displayed systematically. At last, the development of the system platform was summarized and some forecasts of the development of the platform were also made.
