Affected by the integration and informationization of global economy as well as the advance of science and civilization, architectures nowadays are characterized by the international style of cultural convergence and diversified development which demonstrates individuality and has the post-modern features of high-tech and deconstruction. Architectures in China are currently flourishing unprecedentedly as the economy booms rapidly. Many public facilities and commercial properties are being enlarged or rebuilt. In particular, the construction of some international facilities has opened up the architecture developing tendency of "innovation, uniqueness and specialty". On one hand, the traditional architectures and cultures are disappearing gradually away from us in various respects as new cities and new architectures appear. On the other hand, various architecture styles have not only displayed the advance of science and technology but also overturned our aesthetic unprecedentedly. Therefore, we, the architects and designers, should study the architecture theories and design concepts to upgrade our aesthetic and creation capability.It is a compulsory course for contemporary architects and academics to study and apply the traditional Chinese architectural culture. Classical Academy architecture, the typical representative of traditional Chinese architectures, is a combined architectural form of ritual architecture and literary architecture, which carries broad and deep connotation. Yuelu Academy, one of the four traditional Classical Academies, is the spiritual homestead of Hunan culture, the interaction center of ritual culture and local culture, the blending creation of official architecture and civil architecture and the coexisting site of literary emotion and folk aesthetic. It contains typical and unique cultural implications. Study on the architectural aesthetic of Yuelu Classical Academy provides a distinctive angle to explore the traditional Chinese architectural culture. The outstanding concepts and thoughts contained and implicated in the architectural culture is worth to pass on and carry forward.Based on the architectural aesthetic of Yuelu Classical Academy, the paper studies Yuelu Classical Academy from the perspective of poetry, the picturesque imagery and architecture concept. Focusing on the essence and connotation of architectural concept and aesthetic, it analyzes the meaning of image, conception and compass in the classic Chinese Aesthetics. It also analyzes the beauty of Classical Academy architectures in terms of the accumulation and statement of architectural poetry of Yuelu Classical Academy, the structure and display of picturesque imagery and the concreting and presentation of architectural concept. The above covers such respects as architecture and literature, architecture and art, architecture and technology, architecture and culture, architecture and environment, architecture and nature. Three core cultural concepts including literary artistic of the poetry and picturesque imagery, the Confucian sociology of integrated ritual and literary culture as well as the universal environmentalism of the harmony of nature and humans are summed up. It further summarizes the method of understanding architectural aesthetic. Eventually, the paper concludes how we can pass on and carry forward the traditional culture and concepts.
