| Generally, internal lighting are now using compact fluorescent lamps as light sources for reading and writing. Fluorescent lamp, as a light source, has several problems, namely flicker, blue light hazards, and high power consumption. To address the flicker issue, a kind of so called eye-protecting lamp appeared and became the market hot spot. By adding high-frequency ballast, the frequency of these lamps is increased to several thousand or even tens of thousands of Hz, which far exceeds the speed of neuronal reaction of human eye, thus making people feel more comfortable to read in a short period. However, this did not fundamentally eliminate the flicker, and may cause accidents due to "stroboscopic effect".Blue light hazards refers to a kind of light-induced retinal damage, which the medical academia spend numerous effort to investigate in recent years. For children under 20 and elderly population over 45, as well as cataract surgery receivers and AMD patients, this may be extremely harmful. Medical researchers have been using built-in lens to study this problems rather than experimenting on people, so up to now no solid conclusions was draw about blue light hazards, nor do blue light hazards be widely appreciated in the light industry. Nevertheless, a national standard optical bio-hazardous was released in 2006, which gives the criteria for detection and measurement of blue light hazards. Considering the adverse biological effects of optical bio-hazards, this study seeks possible solution by focusing on the light source, while aims to promote the research on effect of blue light hazards on human vision. The is an attempt to develop eye-protecting lamp, as well as an exploration of applying new light source in high-demand application, and will definitely be valuable for now and for future medical and lighting research. |
