Jing County Chapter Crossing The Ancient Rural Landscape Spatial Form Study

This paper targets at the landscape research of ZhangDu, one of the ancient towns from ZhangDu, Jiangsu province, China. The landscape composition logic is retrieved by a set of analysis over the spatial form and landscape layout of ZhangDu town. The research method includes onsite investigation, reference documentation collection and methods that are borrowed from disciplines like urbanism, architecture, environment psychology, and etc. By studying the relevant history, geography, social-cultural transformation and key landscape elements composition logic, this paper summarizes the landscape characteristics and their formation logic of ZhangDu town. Furthermore, the space-users interaction is studied, and the result of which provides a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the form and composition logic for ancient towns.The analysis of ZhangDu'landscape composition elements, is carried out from both'static'and'dynamic'perspective. The key landscape composition elements studied by this research include landscape node, street/river and buildings. The studies of each layer of composition elements and their associations will be put against the overall landscape layout to extend further comparison and synthesis, so as to expose the characteristic social-historical, landscape and artistic value of ZhangDu town. Thus, a well-informed rethinking of landscape revitalization and culture continuation of ZhangDu town can be carried out, in the direction of promoting its particular culture heritage and stimulating a sustainable landscape redevelopment.
