Dwelling environment is the most important comprising part of a residential community. It relates closely to the living standard of people's life and has attracted more and more attention to value on its importance. With the nation's fast growth economy, people begin to pay much more attention to the harmonious of dwelling environment, hoping to free themselves from the crowd and return to nature. This, in deed, has promoted the rapid development of dwelling environment design, and helps it entering a new stage focusing on superior, exquisite and elegant. A qualified dwelling environment design combines human and nature, technique and art, function and view, fashion and tradition together, showing a harmonious picture that combines people with sunshine, fresh air, green color, nature and architecture. This paper is written based on the research to some residential community in Shenyang, and reached the conclusion that a better"the unity of heaven and human being"dwelling environment shall be supported by the design idea of man is an integral part of nature.The most important thing in dwelling environment design is how to create the"mean"cultural atmosphere in residential community. To realize this, the harmony culture design element shall be fully utilized to build the"mean"cultural atmosphere. Thus, recognition to the residential community will be raised in respect of its leisure, relax and comfort living environment.By studying on the different landscape elements and the"mean"cultural demand between people and dwelling environment, this paper discussed on the application of"mean"theory in dwelling environment. which possesses distinguished design idea and"mean"cultural atmosphere, making man really become an integral part of nature.
