The SET mode is a fire-new and advanced analysis theory for product design at the early stage and has been widely used in current industrial design in developed European and American countries. Many enterprises and brands adopted the SET mode as the instructive theory of product development at the early stage and searched for the product opportunity gap, thereby obtained great success. In China, the SET analysis mode has not been emphasized and valued in related industries, and the traditional market survey has great deficiencies. This paper discusses the function and value of SET mode in the early stage of product design and development and how to combine it with the present situation of industrial design in China, to correctly introduce and apply the SET mode to direct product design, so as to ensure the SET mode can be effectively used and popularized.
