Xionggui pills originated from the Song Dynasty, "Taiping Huimin of the Council", the Southern Song Dynasty strict with the "National Jisheng," and "Most Effective solutions" in the "Xionggui Soup" [1-3]. Chuanxiong, with the main ingredients of Angelica ferulic acid and collagen, could inhibit ADP-induced platelet aggregation, increase red blood cell and platelet surface charge, lower blood viscosity, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and other pharmacological effects. This study was to increase the bioavailability for the purpose of developing a Xionggui pills, mainly applicable to blood deficiency of blood stasis, the choroid Stagnation cause headache, dizziness, insomnia, forgetfulness, for cerebral arteriosclerosis caused by cerebral insufficiency of headache, dizziness, memory impairment and sleep disorders.Xionggui pills were prepared by using orthogonal test. The best prescription form was selected by screening the extraction solvent extract, a different carrier and raw material ratio, condensing fluid, the molding of pills, pills weight, temperature and other aspects. The ferulic acid in Xionggui pills was identified using thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and its content was determined using HPLC . The method presented a good linear relationship (r = 0.9999) within 0.0014 - 0.28μg of Ferulic acid. The average recovery rate was 99.96% to 100.44%. The method was simple, sensitive, accurate and could be used for Xionggui pills quality control.Pharmacodynamics of Xionggui pills was studied by observing the effects on hypoxia cerebral blood flow, the cerebral blood flow map of acute cerebral ischemia in rabbits and the mouse leptomeningeal microcirculation. The preventive effect of Xionggui pills on acute cerebral infarction was also observed. The results confirmed that Xionggui Pill could obviously increase cerebral blood flow, improve microcirculation, inhibit platelet aggregation, and present other pharmacological effects.
