In recent years, polylactic acid (PLA) nonwovens have been the hot spot in nonwovens area. This subject has researched process conditions, structure and properties of PLA nonwovens systematically.First, it has researched heating performance and rheological properties of PLA. Accordingly, process conditions (temperature of extruser) have been fixed. Process conditions of spinning and formation have been discussed, which mainly include spinet temperature, hot air temperature and press, the width of air gap, distance from die to collector (DCD) and spinneret temperature. What's more, it has researched structure and properties of PLA nonwovens produced in different process conditions. It shows that when the spinet temperature is controlled at 220℃, the strength of PLA nonwovens and evenness of web are better; with hot air press increasing, fiber diameter gradually decreases, crimp decreases and web becomes more even; with hot air temperature increasing, fiber diameter increases, felting point increases, filtration efficiency decreases while breathability increase; with the width of air gap increasing, crimp decreases, web becomes more smooth, fiber diameter increases, filtration efficiency decreases while breathability increases. With the increasing of DCD, fiber diameter decreases, web holes increases, felting point decreases, web turns fluffy, maze system of air passing increases, filtration efficiency increases and breathability increases.SPSS and MATLAB software have been used to establish mathematical model among filtration efficiency, breathability and DCD, hot air temperature and GSM respectively, to find out best process conditions of producing PLA nonwovens. It has been testified that mathematical model can simulate practical production, so it will take an important role in PLA nonwovens production.
