In recent years, alongside the sustained and steady development of national economy, China's copper processing industry has entered a high-speed development stage. The production of wrought copper products in China was 1596.6 kt in 2000, and that was 3196.0 kt in 2003, that is to say, doubled in three years, among which the production of copper sheet and strip was 600 kt. China has already become world biggest copper sheet and strip producer.Although China has had a bigger increase in both the production capacity and the actual output of copper sheet and strip, the overall technology and equipment level of China's copper sheet and strip enterprises is still low comparatively. The production output capacity of the enterprises is generally small at an average of less than 3 kt/a. Meanwhile, the existing product variety and mix are not very reasonable, especially lack in capacity of producing high precision products such as leading frame strip, radio-frequency cable strip, transformer strip and so on. Neither the product variety nor quality nor the production capacity has well met present market demand, and therefore import product volume has seen a sustained growth. The volume of imported copper sheet and strip reached 237 kt in 2003.According to the forecasting and estimation, the demand on copper sheet and strip will amount to 1050 kt/a in China in 2010, taking account of the production capacity currently under construction (new projects), copper sheet and strip capacity will be in short of supply at 200 kt/a by 2010.Daye Nonferrous Metals Co., Ltd. is one of the raw copper production bases in China. Its production capacity of theelectrolytic copper is 200 kt/a, and the product quality has reached the world first-class. The electrolytic copper produced by the company is widely used as high-grade raw material for producing the high-quality high-performance copper products.On the basis of the national industrial policy and market demand, and according to its own conditions, Daye Nonferrous Metals Co. has put forward a construction scheme of a 100 kt/a high precise copper sheet and strip production line.Based on the status of production and demand of the copper sheet and strip at home and abroad, Daye projects will mainly focus on production of leading frame strip, radio-frequency cable strip, transformer strip etc. The paper analyzes the project comprehensively, according to the requirements of the product scheme; it elaborates how to select the production process, equipments and facilities; it expounds the environment protection, job safety, hygienic working conditions and so on; it estimates the investment capital, production cost and economic benefit of the project, and points out that the proposed modern high precise copper sheet and strip production line will have good market prospect by optimizing the resources distribution, increasing the economic benefit, product competitiveness and ability of preventing risks of the company. An investment in this model is the best way for the company to realize sustainable development.The designed production capacity of the project is scheduled 100 kt/a copper and copper alloy sheet and strip, including two main production shops, that is, a melting and casting shop and a sheet and strip rolling shop, and the necessary support auxiliaries and common utilities.
