Reservoir is important fresh water source. But with the increase of population and the development of economy, water environment in reservoirs becomes deterioration. In order to improve water environment and to use water resource in reservoirs persistently, it is important for us to carry out the research on water environment protection of reservoirs. Long-tan hydropower station is located at upstream of Hong-shui river in Tian'e county of Guangxi province, which is the second largest water conservancy engineering in China, only inferior to three-gorges Project. In order to obtain environmental and social benefit besides economic benefit, the research on water environment protection of Long-tan hydropower station has important theoretical value and practical significant.Based on the analysis of current home and overseas researches on water environment protection of reservoirs, this paper summarized the basic theories of reservoir water environment protection systematically and evaluated the current water pollution in Long-tan reservoir. Based on the prediction of pollution sources, this paper predicted water quality in reservoir by use of zero-dimension model and one-dimension model, analyzed and calculated the environment capacity of the reservoir, educed the techno-route of research on water environmental protection of reservoirs and proposed the measures to protect water environment. The results of the paper provided a complete pattern for other researches on water environment protection of big reservoirs in China, which has important use for reference.
