Based on the collected data and remote sense data, supported by GIS (Geographical Information System) tools, ecological security assessment of Xianghai Wetland, which is a wetland of international importance for its significantly ecological function in biodiversity conservation, is presented in this paper. And a general restoration plan is made further.To the main ecological function of Xianghai Wetland------waterfowlconservation, two kinds indicators are selected. They are indicators of ecological importance and fragility of environment. The ecological importance of a place is expressed in the number of the cranes present in the place and their ranks in the list of nation-level conserved animals. On the base data collected by observation on the spot, 18 places which record the cranes, are classified into 3 grades: place of the most ecologically important(4), place of more ecologically important(4), and place of ecologically important(lO). At the same time the indicator of fragility of environment of is expressed in the rate of guaranteed water during the breeding period of cranes, which can be calculated by precipitation and RS data. The result is divided into 3 level: high rate of guaranteed water, median rate of guaranteed water best guarantee, and low rate of guaranteed water better guarantee. Final these two assessments by single factor are coupled. The result shows that 3 places( erbaifangzi, jiandipao, and fulaowenpao) are of high rate of guaranteed water among 4 places of the most ecologically important and among 4 places of more ecologicallyimportant, there are 2 places (changlongtuo and dongfengkou ) of high rate of guaranteed water, 1 (liliupao)of median rate of guaranteed water and 1 (guanniaozhan) of low rate of guaranteed water. In general, the state of ecological security of Xianghai Weland is good.To enhance the ecological function of Xianghai Wetland which is biodiversity conservation, a plan for wetland enhancement is made. Guanniaozhan is selected as a wetland enhancement site. Engineer project can be considered to apply to water. The area of the appropriate habitat of cranes can be enlarged naturally.
