Since the Industrial Revolution, modern design, being colorful and variable changes from singularity, which is brought by function, sense and decoration to pluralisation. These modern design trends surely have effect on furniture designing. These influences help to better analyse the development of modern design and furniture design. At the same time, China has made great achievements in furniture designing. Summarizing our past experiences will help to develop "Chinese style" furniture of our age and to make it glorious all over the world. The paper consists of summary and text. The summary sums up the evolvement and designing features in pre-modern design times. It also summarizes the development of the modern furniture, by dividing it into four phases.
