Shaanxi Regional Sustainable Development Of The Preliminary Study

Development is a perpetual topic for human society and the perspective of sustainable development has been widely accepted. Nowadays, Shaanxi Province is facing the historical challenge brought out by Western Development, and it is urgent for Shaanxi to draw up scientific regional development policy, which must be based on a cool- headed and reasonable research on these regions. This thesis, based on the main regional development theories and directed by the methodology of combining qualitative and quantitative means, discussed such hot topics as economic disparity, population growth and its spatial distribution, urbanization and economic development, pollution and its prevention etc. Finally, the assessment of the level on sustainable development is made in Shaanxi and some measures accelerating its economic development are presented so that it can be referred by the government. In this thesis: (a) some regional development theories are introduced and are compared with each other; (b) the tendency of economic disparity and the reasons for it are analyzed and it is concluded that the level of economic disparity will continue to increase: (c) the characteristics of population growth and its spatial distribution are summarized and it is expected that the tendency of population concentration is unavoidable; (d) the existing problems and inhibiting factors are analyzed based on the research on the relationship among urbanization, economic development and labor transformation; (e) pollution and its prevention in ten administrative areas are compared and it is believed that the traditional way of pollution is changing toward a newer one; (f) the index system of sustainable development in Shaanxi is established and the assessment of sustainable development level is made; (g) some measures on strategy , infrastructure, population and labor transformation, urban and industrial development are given to combat the problems discussed above.
