The mould is the most important part in continuous casting. It greatly affects the quality of the cast steel. How to detect the states in the mould precisely is the key of continuous casting. Now, there are many ways to on-line detect the states in mould. After comparing them one by one, the power method was chosen to build the on-line friction detect system. According to the change of mould friction, we can judge the states of the cast steel. In this thesis , an on-line system to detect the change of friction in mould which includes two strands was built. A industrial computer was used to gather and translate the data(the under one), and another used to receive the data and store them and then display the graph of it (the upper one) . The later can be used to demand the historical data and graph too. These two computers communicate by two PCL-740 cards. The software in the under one was based on DOS system, it was programmed in C program. While, the upper one was based on WINDOWS system, and was done in VISUAL C++5 program, the communication component offered by the MICROSOFT was used to receive the data. The setting of the system in the industrial spot was not done favorably. In the aspect of the stability of this system and the anti-disturbance, lots of effort had been done. Many faults are corrected. Now, the on-line system is working well in the plant, and it is stabile. It can afford many references to operators and be a helpful work to the ultimate version. At last, preliminary analysis to the system was done, and modified ideas are suggested.
