The detailed research was focused on the synthesis, properties andapplication of the acid-starting copolyethers nonionic surfactants.First, the preparation process of low boiling point initiator polyetherswas moditied. We used a novel way which is adding a small quantity ofethylene oxide alld propylene oxide at first in a system to synthesis higherboiling point intermediates, then dehydrating in the vacuum with the enoughcatalyst to prepare the tinal production. This was a simple and easy operatingprocess which solved the problem of dehydration in traditional production oflow boiling point initiator polyethers. Little side product polyethylene glycol(PEG) was found in the system. At the same time, the molecular weightdistribution of the product is narrow Based on this novel process, weprepared a series of propanoic acid polyethers (FA) containing differentEO/PO. Their properties were determined and the effects of intermediates'sstructure on the final products' performance were obtained. In addition,formic acid, acetic acid and butyric acid polyethers were syllthesized in thesame way to prove the applicability of our process.After this, the posttreatment process of polyether was discussed in thepaper. Using mixed sorbent and the reformed process we obtained productswith almost no color, good transmittance and low.K+ content which is lessthan 2ppm. This posttreatmcnt achieved satisfactory decoloration anddepotassium effect as well as improved the quality of the polyether.We analysized the four factors that influence the polyethers' propertiesmost──initiators, molecular weight, mole ratio of EO to PO and the structureof molecular chain──and designed nine polyethers (the series of LA) basedon L9(34) orthogonal experiment. Their physical and chemical propertieswere tested and the relation between structure and property of acidpolyethers was summed up accordingly. The best structure of each propertywas determined.At last, the application of polyether in permeating agent was studied.The high-performance permeating agent built up by polyether,alcoholsulfate,alcohol and acid ethoxy phosphate had a penetrability superior to thecommercial permeating agent JFC.
