With the development of automotive industry and improvement of income level in China, the consumption and amount of ownership of automotive have increased through the years. Automotive industry boosts social development but brings some negative impacts. On the one hand, huge annual vehicle production expends a large amount of metallic and non-metallic materials, which exacerbated the tense situation to the country’s resources. On the other hand, the amount of scrapped vehicles grows each year with the increasing amount of ownership, but considerable scrapped parts have not been effectively recycled and eventually caused environment problems and wasted resources. Thus, a system for comprehensive evaluation and effective management of automotive parts’ scrap recycling should be urgently built. It aims at quantitative evaluation to energy-saving benefits in the scrap recycling stage, which provides scientific decision support for the relevant departments to take appropriate guides and implement effective management. Based on above statements:(1) This article reviews the basic scrap recycling process of automotive parts. By studying interrelation between recycled materials or remanufactured parts and energy consumption, pollutant emissions, this article established comprehensive MEP (Material, Energy Consumption and Pollutant Emission, MEP for short) evaluation model for the whole scrap recycling stage (including transportation process). This model contains mass matrices of recycled materials and remanufactured parts, energy consumption matrices based on the mutual mappings between energy consumption and materials, as well as the pollutant emissions matrices based on mutual mappings between pollutant emissions and materials.(2)After collecting authoritative statistics from China’s metallurgical, energy and other sectors, and a number of related literatures, and by analyzing related data, a basic database of energy consumption and pollutant emissions for scrap recycling process was established.(3)Using automotive power seat as the object, combined with the collected basic data, this article analyzed and assessed the scrap recycling process of this power seat, and the quantities of recycled materials, energy consumption and pollutant emissions in this process were calculated. Moreover, we stated comparative analysis of changing effect of energy-saving and emission-reduction between different processes in light-weighted seat framework and recycled seat motor, which proved the feasibility of this model, and proposed suggestions to improve green designing level and the effect of energy-saving and emission-reduction in scrap recycling process.
