| With the rapid development of economy and science, the application of highperformance materials in all walks of life receives more and more attention. The UHMWPE fiber is prepared by gel spinning, which has the highest specific strength and modulus in the world for now. This fiber is widely used in ballistic fabric and aerospace and reinforced composite materials. Therefore, accelerating the research process of UHMWPE fiber has extraordinary strategic significance in China.This research focuses on the basic properties, cutting resistance, impact resistance and abrasion resistance of UHMWPE fiber and yarns and fabrics made of it. The conclusions are as follows:1. The longitudinal surface of UHMWPE fiber is smooth with small grooves, and cross section is similar to ellipse without hole. UHMWPE fiber has poor thermo- stability, low moisture regain of almost 0, high specific resistance. The testing fiber’s tensile strength is 41.43 c N of every single fiber, and the maximum is 58.33 c N.2. The holding force of UHMWPE fiber is poor, so it is difficult for spinning, the most fine yarn density of what we have prepared is 147.8dtex(40Ne) at present, and the yarn evenness will be increased when PET is added. The tensile properties and cutting resistance of UHMWPE yarns will be strong with the increased linear density and UHMWPE fiber content.3. UHMWPE fabrics’ impact resistance are much higher than PET/PET cationic composite yarn woven fabric, and the under machine shrinkage of UHMWPE fabric is little. And the fabric impact resistance will be improved with the single high or diversified linear density configuration and the improved fabric warp density.4. The weightlessness rate of cotton fabric is smaller than the specifications of UHMWPE/cotton mixed fabric after scouring, but the shrinkage is larger, and the UHMWPE fabric and the UHMWPE/PET blended fabric are almost the same. In terms of cutting resistance and abrasion resistance, UHMWPE fabric is better than the cotton fabric. And the closer and higher the UHMWPE yarn per unit area, can greatly improve the cutting resistance and abrasion resistance of fabric. |
